Men's leather shoes: a guide to style and quality

How many pairs a man really needs, how to balance classic and casual, and why genuine leather always pays off.

In a man's wardrobe, shoes are the most telling detail. The suit can be simple, but a well-kept leather pair pulls the whole look together. It is no accident that the history of footwear goes back millennia: good shoes have always been a mark of confidence.

Three pairs that cover everything

To start with, a man really needs only three pairs.

Black classic shoes: for work, meetings and formal occasions.

A brown everyday pair that works with both jeans and chinos.

Comfortable slip-ons or loafers for the weekend: for example, our leather slip-ons that go on in one motion.

With these three, the morning "what do I wear" question disappears on its own.

What sets a quality pair apart

Genuine leather only gets better with age, as long as you look after it. Check the stitching: it should be even and tight. The sole should flex, and the heel counter should hold your foot firmly. We described every check in detail in our guide to choosing leather shoes.

Size without compromises

The most common mistake men make: "it is a bit tight, it will stretch". Quality leather shoes are comfortable from the first try-on. Fit both feet, standing, in the afternoon. About a centimeter of free space should remain in front of your toes.

Care takes five minutes, the result lasts years

Wiping with a soft cloth once a week and conditioning once a month is enough to keep a pair looking sharp for years. Details are in our care guide.
